Let me start this conversation by saying...Do you know you are alive? Of course you do. Are there days when you are just getting into bed and it has been ONE OF THOSE DAYS and you ask yourself, "what did I do today?" and truly for a minute or two you may not remember what you did just 30 minutes earlier? Ok. In some ways, being dead, or being a ghost, is like that. Some spirits DO realize that have died and some died so tragic or so sudden they look back and say "what just happened"?
An earthbound spirit, is the spirit of someone whose physical body has died, but the real them—the spiritual part—continues to hang around. There are a number of reasons why a spirit does not cross over when the physical body dies. Some of the most common reasons spirits are earthbound and haven’t gone into the light are: Sudden death, Suicide, Addiction, Deep regret and Fear of hell.
This happens with sudden death. There is no time to know you are getting ready to leave your body. You just depart. The experience could be dramatic for those watching, but not necessarily for those who have left this life. I believe it's kinda like it happened sooooo fast that the person or spirit just doesn't realize what has just happened to them. Sometimes, if the soul has no connection to the person or place they’re attached to, they will leave instantaneously. Other times they need a little help understanding what has happened to them and they need a little "push" to head toward the light where their loved ones wait to welcome them. They are confused and don't understand WHY you don't see them, or talk to them like before. That is why they are always trying to get our attention.
Now, with suicide, many believe taking one’s own life is always wrong. But, is it? Can you really blame someone that is in such great physical pain....say due to an illness, that they take their own life? I don't know what the correct answer is here and it can lead to a sticky subject, so again, I will give you MY opinion and what I think. Hope this does not offend anyone. That is NOT my intention.
Some spirits have unfinished business. Have you ever needed to be somewhere by a certain time? Lets say, just in BECKY TERMS....you have to be at your friends house for dinner at 8:00pm. You are getting dressed and you realize you forgot to send a very important email that has to be done today. So, what happens........you don't want to be late for dinner so you rush out the door, the whole time KNOWING you should have stayed and got your email off real quick. The whole time your at dinner.....what are you doing.....your worrying about that UNFINISHED email. Ok.....some spirits NEVER get that email sent and can't move on until they do. Now of course, that is a stretch to truly what happens, but spirits sometimes feel they HAVE to finish important things hear on earth before they can cross and once they do......well let's say that hit the SEND button. :)
Other ghosts, as we see them are just residual energy of things that the person did over and over while they were hear on earth. You may see a ghost going up the stairs every night around 8:00-9:00 because that's what time, lets say your grandfather went to bed. Every night he would walk slowly up those stairs and up to bed. Now in this case, yes, he knows he's gone and what we are seeing is just a residual energy that will fade over time.
And sometimes, yes we have what I refer to as our "Guardian angles". These are spirits that know they are dead, and are in heaven, but God knows that us here, still on earth, need a "little guidance" from the ones we loved so they are allowed to give us signs, guide us and help us to our destination.
So ........ yes, most of the time, ghosts know they are dead.
