Cemeteries are one of my favorite places to "hang out". They are creepy, scary and sometimes very beautiful. Cemeteries seem to offer the ghost hunter an excellent chance for strange phenomena and spirit photos, perhaps because of the theory involving "spirit portals" and "doorways" in many burial grounds. Cemeteries with unmarked graves, where desecration has taken place or where tragic events have occurred often become haunted. A search through historical records can often point a researcher to a haunted graveyard. YEAH!!!
One thing I have to be sure and bring up is, be sure to check into your state and local laws about entering cemeteries after dark. Be sure that you are not breaking any laws. Most law enforcement are pretty nice if they "catch" you in a cemetery at night, as long as they see you are being respectful and not bothering anything or ANYONE.
A few things you should remember when investigating a cemetery:
1. Never go alone. Make sure you have someone with you in case of emergency.
2. Get permission if possible. This only makes things better for everyone.
3. As with any investigation, arrive at the scene with skepticism and make an effort to find a natural explanation for any phenomena that occurs.
4. Make Notes! Big important part of your investigation is to make notes of time, date, temp and weather conditions. They could make a difference when determining your conclusion.
5. Finally, always but always be respectful to the dead and remember that everyone that is in that cemetery was someones loved one, maybe even yours. Always leave it just as you found it. And just me, I always thank my HOST for a great evening. :)
Some of my favorite and best photos are of cemeteries, both at night and durning the day. So, pack your equipment and if your in Texas....your water....and plan a date with a cemetery. I will be waiting to see your pics and here your stories.
